Family-hauler looks belie Le Mans power.
We talked to our friends at Honda, and they gave us the lowdown on the "Honda Monster Family Van." It was originally built by the Honda Manufacturing of Alabama Racing Team, and prepped for Pikes Peak by the "associate race club" at Honda R&D Americas, Inc., in Ohio. ("Associate" is Honda-speak for "employee.")
You'll find that pretty much wherever Honda has a facility, there's a group of workers there who race for fun. These clubs are like intramural efforts; they're not big, full-blown, factory-sponsored racing teams. They're simply part of the culture at Honda. There's a lot of passion for motorsports in the folks who work for the company. Since Pagenaud drives a Honda-powered Indy car for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, Honda considers him to be part of its extended family.
